about cherry gilchrist
Cherry Gilchrist is an author and lecturer, whose subjects include titles on mythology, divination, the feminine psyche, the Silk Road, and Russian art and culture. Her children’s book A Calendar of Festivals received a UK Reading Award, and The Elements of Alchemy (now Explore Alchemy) has been translated into several languages. Much of her work is inspired by a love of discovering ancient wisdom, and renewing it in a contemporary context. Cherry also teaches Life Writing, based on a keen interest in personal narrative and family history.
Although Cherry wanted to write from an early age, she has also followed the lure of buying and selling exotic items, first running a vintage clothes shop and in recent times a Russian arts and crafts business. She is fascinated by traditional cultures, and has travelled widely, visiting destinations such as Central Asia, Siberia and South America. Other interests include singing early music, cooking and country walking. She was married for nearly 30 years, has two grown-up children, and now lives near Stroud with her partner Robert, who is an artist.
